While I was writing about trolls yesterday, it came to me that naturists are often seen as weirdos. Strange people who love to get naked alone and in front of others. How weird can that be, can’t it?
For many textiles, we probably have a psychological problem or a sexual disorder. Naturists, and psychologists, know it’s not the case. There’s nothing “wrong” being comfortable naked and not being shameful about the naked body. I would actually claim that people who are not comfortable with nudity, their own and others, have probably a psychological disorder, but that would be to label people and not respecting differences.
Naturists are no more weirdos than textilists. Naturism is about being comfortable in our own body and live in respect of others and the environment. We respect some people are not ready to be naturists and will never be. As long as we can live our lifestyle, differences make humans. Naturists are just humans, living with the comfort of nudity ingrained.

This is the exact reason I am a “closet” nudist”. Most of my family and friends would think I’m some kind of weirdo sexual deviant. Nudity is so stigmatized in the U.S. it is even harder to being open about it than other parts of the world. The ironic thing is that as I’ve grown accustomed to being a social nudist over the past year I feel I’ve been more confident and mentally stronger about it than ever. I recently had my first overnight experince at a nudist camp and it was a wonderful experience. I had meals and enjoyed fabulous conversations with a variety of people I had never met before. I was so involved in socializing that I completely stopped thinking about being nude. By the end of the weekend I felt l had a whole new circle of nudist friends who are the farthest thing from “weirdos”.
